Edge Rods Rookie Champs for 2016

Delving into the world of tournament fishing can be one of the most rewarding experiences for a keen angler.

This year, ABT in conjunction with Fish-Tec Solutions and Edge Rods rolled out incentives for first timers, rewarding rookies at each Costa BREAM Qualifier and BassCat BASS Pro event of the season.

Throughout the season, anglers also battled for the Rookie of the Year title, a season-long points race that takes a rookie’s AOY points and tallies them against other qualified anglers to see who takes the honours at the end of the season.

The reward for the Rookie of the Year race? A beautiful Edge rod, made famous by its creator, Gary Loomis. Edge rods have
quickly established themselves on the tournament scene due to their incredible performance and sensitivity.

Here’s your 2016 Edge Rods Rookies of the Year!IMG_5629

Paul Aldous not only took out the Edge Rods Rookie of the Year title, he also stole the show and won the Bassman BASS Pro Angler of the Year.

With 281 out of a possible 300, Paul was always going to be hard to beat, two third place finishes sealing the deal on the season long points race.
Aldous, hailing from Victoria, travels further than almost anyone fishing the BassCat BASS Pro Series and his efforts were rewarded this year taking the double crown amongst a talented field of Australia’s keenest bass anglers.

James Morgan’s 352/400 was more than enough to secure him the Edge Rods
Rookie of the Year title for 2016. Attending ABT’s ‘Tassie Tour’ started his campaign off on a great start, before solid finishes at Forster and again at the SPG_3663Clarence River stamped his name as one to watch.

He sealed the deal at the Gold Coast, where a Top 5 finish pushed him well out of reach. Morgan’s year also finished with a top 10 in the PowerPole BREAM Angler of the Year, and we’re betting another solid performance when the Costa BREAM Series wraps up at St Georges Basin next month.

Each Rookie of the Year will walk away with a brand new Edge First Strike rod of their choice, valued at $600! A worthy inclusion to any anglers arsenal.

Both our 2016 Rookies of the Year were non-boating competitors, signalling the fantastic opportunity that awaits newcomers to the exciting sport of tournament fishing. Sign up, turn up and step on board some of the best anglers’ boats in the country, you just might walk away with some new tricks, and possibly, new tackle!
