Siggs Supreme at QTS Round 3

Round 3 of the Queensland team’s series sponsored by EJ Todd was run on the Gold Coast over the last weekend in August. Calm, overcast conditions greeted the 25 anglers as they launched their boats at the Paradise Point boat ramp. With the showers staying away, the anglers headed off.

Finishing 3rd place with 3.53kg was team Pontoon 21, Denis Metzdorf and Khoi Pham. The two ventured north from the Paradise Point and made the run up into Moreton Bay. It’s always a gamble doing the big run up and especially so with forecast wind and rain. The boys had some good bream by-catch whilst chasing snapper recently and weren’t disappointed as there were plenty of fish around.

They focused their efforts on natural structure, they were using a Damiki Walker with an aggressive retrieve, once they found a patch of fish they threw Damiki DTSCO and Pontoon 21 Crackjacks on a slow roll along drop-offs and gutters. They also used Damiki Armour shads in 3 inch. Their day started off slow as the tide was getting high but they put together a small bag, they then upgraded it as the tide started running out, the boys also took out big bream with a 38cm fish weighing in at 1.04kg.

Finishing 2nd place with 3.57kg bag was team Nu-look floors with Steve Nicholls winning the competition to fish with Jamie McKeown, the guys headed down to Sundale bridge where Jamie has been pulling some pretty good bags lately and they managed to pull a couple of keepers on the crabs before heading to the Pool to pick up there two kicker fish on the ever trusty Ecogear Bream Prawn. They spent the rest of the day alternating between those two spots as well as the trawlers beside Sea World.

Finishing 1st place with a cracking 3.62kg bag was John Siggs, John fished boat hulls and pontoons from Paradise Waters all the way up to Bundall Rd bridge using the trusty Cranka crabs and Berkley plastics. Well done John!

Team Neckemall took out the rookie prize and is currently the top placed rookie team, Andrew and Alex came 4th with a 2.73kg bag.

Round 4 will be run from the Gold Coast in early October so look for “Queensland Team Series” on Facebook and get along to this great 100% payback social tournament series. – Stu Robinson.
