Round 5 of the Queensland Teams Series (QTS), Sponsored by Blue Fish Imports, was run on the Gold Coast from Budd’s Beach over the second weekend in November.

With the best possible weather you could ask for 34 anglers and 2 juniors made it to the 5th and final round for the 2018 calendar.

Finishing in third place with 2.64kg, Team Sunstate Hobie/Cranka, Scott Sandiland and Stephen Maas, the pair spent most of their day fishing Gulp Crabbys up around Lake Intrepid.

Finishing in second place with 2.67kg after missing the last round, Team Pontoon 21, Denis Metzdorf and Khoi Pham. These guys didn’t make their usual run up to the bay and decided to try something different. They fished the main Nerang river between Sundale Bridge and the Council Chambers throwing pretty much everything in their arsenal. They started with a small bag early in the day and then slowly upgraded as the day went on, putting together a pretty good summer Gold Coast bag. The 2 have proven they work very well as a team and will be the team to beat next year no doubt.

Finishing in first place with 2.84kg and getting some Juniors involved in this great sport, team Fishing Monthly, Steve Morgan fishing with his boys Finn and Storm. The guys headed up the back of

Broadbeach and Mermaid Waters, fishing Cranka Crabs and as they put it ‘squishy maggots’ (Ecogearaquas in white) around bridges and pontoons. The boys had a great family day on the water between doing the floss dance, catching some good fish with some expert guidance by their dad, and

winning some cash. At their age, I’m sure they think they’re rich. They will be dragging Steve back next year.

Finn also took out Big bream, winning the Samaki rod kindly donated by Blue Fish Imports. You can watch the catch in the video below.
