Team Venom has completed a wire-to-wire victory in the inaugural Venom BARRA Australian Open on Lake Awoonga.
Fitting of this high level, three day event teams battled winds from all four directions and a finicky BARRA bite to ensure that the winning team wasn’t assured of their victory until the last cast was made.
Ultimately, it was the consistency of Troy Dixon and Adam Meredith that secured them the title and the $5000 winner’s cheque that goes with it with 11/15 BARRA for 37.57kg.
Although not securing a five fish limit on any of the tournament days, they boated enough barra to maintain 10kg margin over the rest of the field across the three days.
Filling out the rest of the top three teams were Suncoast Marine Electrical (Rob and Tommy Wood) with 9/15 for 27.35kg and Brett’s World (Brett Turner and Brett Bliesner) with 4/15 for 21.68kg.
The Jackall Big Barra prize went to Brett Turner with is awesome 86cm fish.
With plenty of barra coming through in the 50-60cm class the lake is primed for some magnificent fishing in the coming years.
