On Sunday 26th July the Gold Coast played host to the inaugural John Dunphy Memorial Fishing Tournament, a tribute to a stalwart of the Australian fishing tackle industry and an opportunity for attendees of the 2015 National Recreational Fishing Conference to hit the water and experience the exceptional fishing that Queensland has to offer.
Conference attendees were paired with some Australia’s best tournament breamers and together they plied the fish rich waters of the Gold Coast in search of their quarry.
With the goal of catching their largest bag of five bream anglers spread far and wide throughout the Gold Coast’s extensive canal system before returning to TE Peters Drive Park and Boat ramp at 11am to present their catch to the weighmaster.
Team by team they weighed their bags with victory ultimately going the pairing of Austackle tournament pro Nigel White from Coffs Harbour and Joe Restall from Victoria.
Weighing in a 2.27kg limit to secure the win the pair claimed the title of inaugural winners of the inaugural John Dunphy Memorial Fishing Tournament and were rewarded with mementos and trophies for the event win. Gift vouchers were also presented for other meritorious catches.
Anglers and guests alike were treated with breakfast, prizes, and gifts courtesy of AFTA, ABT, Shimano, Berkley and Rapala, with the event destined become a permanent fixture as part of the National Recreational Fishing Conference and AFTA Trade Show.
