Jon Russo Cleans Up
Jon Russo wins MotorGuide package
N.T. fishing fanatic Jon Russo is a happy man, fitting his brand new MotorGuide trolling motor to his five metre plate boat.
Jon won the engine in the annual FFF Seadogs competition, an online brag mat contest open to fishos in Australian states that have barramundi.
Each month a different fish is nominated – either barramundi or another northern species – with contestants taking a photo of their best catch on a brag mat and posting it on www.fishingterritory.com.
A competitor’s six largest fish are added together, and the person with the longest total takes the crown.
Jon finished with 625 centimetres, with a 90cm barra being his smallest.
A very happy Jon collected his prize from leading Darwin dealership In & Outboard Marine who supplied the MotorGuide engine and who have a state of the art service facility to keep it performing brilliantly.
“It’s a great prize and a great competition to win,” said Jon. “It’s something you can’t win accidentally. I organised a year’s worth of fishing to be in with a shot.”
The win is doubly sweet for Jon who came second last year by a mere two centimetres. This year he made sure by finishing 19cms ahead of the rest.
“Chasing different species across the year around Darwin you face a lot of different conditions which is really challenging,” said Jon who’s a teacher and pastor in between fishing trips.
“I certainly couldn’t do it without a trolling motor so to win a MotorGuide is really pleasing.”
“I have always wanted one after a friend fished his way from Darwin to Melbourne and said it was strong all the way,” he said.
“I’ve also heard a lot about its features, like the spot lock, so I’m looking forward to seeing what it can do particularly when going for barramundi.
“It’s also good to know I can get it serviced locally up here which isn’t the case with some trolling motors.”
Now armed with a top class trolling motor, you can bet Jon’s going to have even bigger fish to brag about during this year’s comp.
