The Spotters Sunglasses Queensland Open BREAM tournament returns in 2016, held in conjunction with the Cleveland Caravan, Camping, Boating & 4×4 Expo for the first time in it’s lucrative history. The QLD Open has always been a favourite among local SE QLD bream nuts, with names like Taylor, McKenzie, Britton and Wishey etched into the perpetual trophy numerous times.

The QLD Open has always been intended to be a small field tournament, exposing the wider fishing and boating public to the experience that is tournament bream fishing. “There’s thousands of keen boaties and fisherman travelling through the Cleveland Show and the QLD Open looks to expose those people to what tournament fishing is all about” explained ABT’s tournament director Simon Goldsmith.

The high entry free tournament purposefully limits the number of teams that compete, so that they can all fit into a crowded event space and a short weigh-in window. The plus side is that with high entry fees, come high rewards, with teams that succeed taking home thousands of dollars in prize-money.

This year is the first year the event will run in conjunction with the Cleveland Caravan, Camping, Boating & 4×4 Expo meaning anglers will be starting and finishing at the Raby Bay Marina, then trailering their rigs to the nearby Cleveland Showgrounds, to weigh-in at the Expo amongst thousands of industry representatives and boating public.

Perennial QLD Open entrant Grayson Fong is excited for the change of venue, but imagines it might change the game plans of the entrants. “We traditionally have always launched from the port of Brisbane, but now running out of Raby Bay, we’re closer to the southern bay islands. Plus, you have the canals of Raby Bay right there. So there’s going to be plenty of options for the teams that choose to compete”.

Spotters Sunglasses have been involved with ABT for many, many years, and this year will headline the high profile team’s tournament. Dani Eastwood, marketing for Spotters is excited at the potential that the new venue will bring. “The Cleveland Expo has all of the elements needed for an amazing day out, with the best camping, touring, 4×4 and fishing brands represented.  ABT running the Spotters QLD Open in conjunction with the Expo is the perfect space for the adventure bound to experience Spotters in their native environment.  Having the weigh in as part of the expo only increases the excitement of the participating anglers and the public, and we can’t wait to see who will take out the honours this year.”

The change of location also means the crowd will be closer than ever to the anglers and their boats, maximising the opportunity for sponsor coverage for anglers and the prospect of anglers educating the interested public.

The Cleveland Caravan, Camping, Boating & 4×4 Expo runs from September 23-25th and the Spotters Sunglasses QLD Open will run on the 23rd/24th/25thin conjunction with the show.

Entry forms will be available next month on www.abt.org.au
