2019 John Wright Memorial Competition | Maroon Dam

Round 4 of the QTS was held at Maroon Dam on Saturday. It doubled as the John Wright Memorial event and attracted 10 teams.

The format saw two sessions (morning and afternoon) enabling teams to catch 4 bass per session.

Team Austackle, Jesper Noiesen and Craig Templar took out the win with a combined 8 fish limit of 6.57kg. The pair rotated spots they had located in a pre fish two weeks ago with the technique involving cast 1/4oz jigheads with Austackle Tuffies Bondi Camo 65mm paddleworms casting at the weed edges and slow rolling the plastics through the weed. The fish often grabbing the baits as it came free. Their limit included the sessions Big Bass of 0.96kg caught by Craig. Jesper used his jigging technique in the timbers to great effect to catch some important upgrades in both sessions. The fish were holding at the base of the trees and getting them out involved locked drags and a bit of luck.
In second place was Team T1 and T2 Tim Geide and his partner Tash Nielsen 6.16kg, the pair also used the knowledge they gained in a recent pre fish to catch their limits each session. Tash was on fire during the second session and according to Tim “caught all the big ones”!

Rounding out the podium was Team Ambiguous Jacob Kelly and Heath Webby 5.98kg. The pair focussed their efforts in the timber area at the back of the dam and didn’t move far all day. They also were ripping plastics through the weed and caught plenty of fish

 for the day.

Big Bass for the day was caught by Gary Middleton from Team Bonzo who landed the only bass over a kilo at 1.26kg. The guys also weighed the biggest bag for the day at 3.6kg.

Thanks to everyone who supported the event. It was great to see Johns wife Shelly, his brother Joe and kids out there to be part of the presentations and camp overnight. Steve Morgan for donating a heap of prizes which ensured every team walked away with a bag of goodies (how good is AFC!!)

The event raised $150 for the Bravery Trust who provide support to current and ex serving military members in hard times.
