With a lot of rain falling over the north coast, Toonumbar Dam had its fair share of new water with the dam rising yet remaining clear for anglers.
28 anglers took up the challenge; two anglers stood out from the first session and finished strong, they were Joe Urquhart taking 1st place and Peter Bostock finishing 2nd.
Joe and Peter fished in the same area at the back of the dam were the water was running in to fill their bag each session. Joe’s approach was throwing top water early with a Megabass Pop X Jnr, plus casting tight to the lily pads with a Slider Grub rigged on a jighead as the day got hotter. Joe’s rod consisted of an Edge 702 with a Daiwa Certate reel spooled with Toray Super Strong braid with Toray Upgrade leader.
Peter also used a similar approach, he threw a beetle spin with a Squidgy Lobby on an Abu Vanguard rod 1-3 kg with 3lbNano fill and 4 lb leader on a Sol 2000 Daiwa reel. He also targeted top water. Later in the day he used a Megabass Grand Siglet.
Rod Shorton took the Flow-rite Big Bass crown for the weekend with a nice bass of 990gms taken from the back of the dam tight to lily pads.
I would like to thank the anglers for showing up even after the bad weather we had. Just a quick mention for Justin Thompson hope you are feeling ok after Peter Bostock went to retrieve a lure and put your face in the wasps nest copping 5 stings and lots of laughs. The last I heard he was talking of getting his own boat!
